Tahir Ağa Konağı was built by Hafız Zade Tahir Ağa towards the end of the 19th century, in 1890.
During the First World War, in the years 1914-1917, Trabzon was occupied by the Russians. For Trabzon under occupation, between 1917 and 1918 Hafız Zade Tahir Ağa's Mansion served as the headquarters of the Turkish army.
Because Trabzon was at the crossroads of east-west trade, Tahir Ağa Konağı also served as a guest house in the mid-20th century, between 1956 and 1968, for merchants coming for commercial purposes from the surrounding provinces (Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Rize, Artvin, Giresun, Ordu, Erzincan, Erzurum, Kars).
Tahir Ağa Konağı, which was registered as a historic monument by the Trabzon Board for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets with decision no. 2598 dated 31.10.1996, was on the same date also deemed a historic monument by the High Council of Monuments.
Tahir Ağa Konağı was restored in 2007 in keeping with its original form, with its historic texture preserved, and reopened for use.
Tahir Ağa Konağı is right in the centre of the city of Trabzon, 3 km from Trabzon airport, 2.8 km from Hagia Sophia, 150 m from the town square, on the slope of Boztepe, directly opposite the port of Trabzon and 800 m from the Coach Station.
All the rooms of Tahir Ağa Konağı, whose structural features are preserved as on the first day, have mountain and sea views.
Tahir Ağa Konağı, which carries the architectural traces of the Ottoman Empire, allows its guests to have an airy stay with its high ceilings and its wide double-opening doors.
It is possible to come across the deep traces of woodcarving, Ottoman history's most ambitious branch of art, in every particle of Tahir Ağa Konağı. The room ceilings adorned with the art of woodcarving are 3.80 m high, and the double-opening room doors, again made with the art of woodcarving, are 2.80 m high.
The guests of Tahir Ağa Konağı journey into the depths of Turkish culture throughout their stay, with the warmth of the wood and its motifs opening onto the past.
