The Colourful Almond Blossom Festival in Datça
2023-01-04

The Datça Almond Blossom Festival, which has become traditional, has ended in Datça, where the world-famous almonds with a geographical indication are grown. At the festival, those placed in the categories of largest almond, fastest almond cracking competition, best-kept garden, cold dishes made with local herbs, cold dishes with almonds and almond desserts received their prizes.
The 'Datça Almond Blossom Festival', held this year on 15-18 February 2024, began with a procession through the centre of Datça. The procession, made up of clowns, folk dance groups, members of cultural associations and the public, produced colourful scenes.
In the district of Datça, whose name has become a symbol of the area and where Türkiye's first green almonds bear fruit during March, there is intense interest in Datça from all over Türkiye for the festival held for the 5th time this year. During the festival, in which nature photographers in particular take great interest, the blossoms opening on the almond trees across Datça draw great interest from photography enthusiasts.
With the festival held in Datça for the blossoming of the almond trees, also known as the herald of spring, both Datça almonds are promoted and a contribution is made to the district's economy before the summer season.
