The story of this mountain begins with Homer…  

The Kaz Mountains, which the ancient historian Homer described as “Ida, mother of animals, abundant in springs, with a thousand fountains”, hold an important place in mythology. It is recorded in mythology that its name was given as Ida by Cretan sailors to refer to Mount Ida on Crete, where Zeus was born.   According to legend, Zeus was born in these mountains, the gods watched the Trojan War from here, and Aphrodite fell in love for the first time here. That famous beauty contest, in which Hera, Aphrodite and Athena took part and offered the “first bribe” in history, leading to the Trojan War that would last 10 years, was held here. Aristotle too opened his first school of philosophy here.   At the end of the 10-year Trojan War, with the help of his mother Aphrodite, the demigod Aeneas took his father Anchises on his back and took refuge on Ida's summits. He then had his ships built in the city of Antandros (Altınoluk) and set out for the Mediterranean, and thus begins the story of Rome's founding in the poet Virgil's epic.   It is understood from ancient sources and from the historic remains that have come down to the present day that many settlements were founded on the slopes of the Kaz Mountains throughout history.   We see that the area's first inhabitants were the Carians, Trojans, Leleges, Luwians and Lydians. The Mysians, among the area's inhabitants, lived at certain times by founding city states attached to Troy. Later we see the Cimmerians and the Lydians in this land.
